SG50 Reflections: Our Hopes and Memories (HOME)
Published: EduNation, Issue 9, October 2015

Among the many outpourings of celebration from diverse groups to mark Singapore's Golden Jubilee comes a collaborative work from students and teachers from nearly 400 schools in Singapore.

The videos, artwork, interviews and stories included in this collection span a period of 50 years, and are grouped into 5 categories: Culture & Celebrations, Defining Moments, Faces of Singapore, Memorable Spaces, and Progress & Achievements. Within each category, divided into 10-year spans, circular "bubbles" can be clicked to show the fruits of the students' research on a particular topic. Rediscover almost-forgotten places such as the old National Theatre and the "dragon" playground, visit the spanking new Changi Airport Terminal 3, or admire the exuberance of fireworks at Marina Bay. Remember the first Legislative Assembly of Singapore in 1959, and the bombing of MacDonald House in 1965. Find out more about our founding fathers, vanishing trades and favourite foods. This is a marvelous gathering of memories of things that are uniquely Singaporean, and a wonderful showcase of the creativity of our students.

What a wonderful birthday gift for our nation!
